If you’re thinking you might like to write for NG, please ask yourself the following questions;
- Can you write better than a 15 year old?
- Do you understand what makes Negative Gamer different to other blogs (if not, have a look around)?
- Are you awesome, or too awesome?
- Are you reliable, and do you think you can write on a roughly regular basis?
- Oh… do you want to write, right?
- Do you understand what these “ask yourself” things are about?
This place is growing. People are finding out that this is where all the cool kids hang out and so our readership and community is increasing in size daily.
As a contributor to Negative Gamer you will gain a number of things. Money isn’t one of them (yet), but what we lack in funds we make up for in other ways wink wink.
As a growing site we can offer a way to practice and improve your writing as well as exposure for your work and portfolio, contacts within the industry, free entry to events, possibly free copies of games (though I have no idea what publisher would send us free stuff), free cookies and the potential to be paid. It’s a long journey, but with the right people it’s easily possible (and fun).
As we grow we’re going to be needing more writers to keep the steady flow of quality content coming. There are a number of roles within the site, but these are more guidelines. The aim is to provide you as a writer with a very comfortable mix of stuff to write.
News Contributor
As a news contributor you would be expected to write around 3 or 4 posts per week. Your job would be to keep readers up to date with all the latest goings on in the wide world. News doesn’t have to be (and primarily shouldn’t be) big stories. A billion other sites can report on them, so unless you’re adding something of value to the article, not much point.
Feature Contributor
As well as news, Negative Gamer, as the name suggests, is big on opinion. It’s a place where you should be able to say whatever you want, and as long as you give the readers respect, you should get respect back. “I hate x” won’t be met with “STFU” here, but rather “why?”. Spark discussion not flame wars. The tricky part here is making sure what you say fit with the general voice of the site. “10 Reasons Halo is AWESOME”, for example, would be a bit of a faux par around these parts. Again, have a look around and work out if you’re voice could fit in.
So, if you answered yes to the first 5 questions (maybe I should have mentioned that bit first, oh well) and want to apply to write here, then send in a writing sample (blog posts are fine) as well as a bit of info about yourself. The kind of things we want to know are; your history with gaming, the roll you see yourself fitting, why you want to write for us and why we want you to. Also, we don’t really care if you have much experience, so don’t worry about that.
I can be found at the other end of wardrox AT gmail.com (feel free to add me to gtalk) and I look forward to talking to you.
Oh, one more thing; Everybody gets a free tiger.*
