Ubisoft has made public their plans for the next installment in the Prince of Persia franchise. Will they continue the gripping story of Elika and the vagabond Prince from last year’s criminally poor performing Prince of Persia? Of course not, you fools! They appear to be returning to the “Sands of Time” universe with their freshly teased title, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.
If you played through last year’s PoP and the accompanying DLC epilogue, you’ll know the story was left on quite the cliffhanger. If you were even mildly invested in the new look of the series, I’m betting you’ll be disappointed with the soon-to-be revealed title. Ubisoft plans to release the game in parallel with the Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster (yes, I use the term loosely).
Did you play the new (old) Prince of Persia? Am I crazy for being bummed about this news? Let us know your thoughts below.

NOOO! I liked the new prince.
Also the epilogue ending was even worse than the normal ending. Damn you Ubisoft!
I liked the “new” prince too. I’m ticked! I blame you for this, Brett.
Y tu Gandon? Y tu?
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE.
The new PoP game was really boring to me. I hope they bring it back to more platforming without insta-saving and the poor attempt and making a new Alyx Vance.
Oh good, Mr. generic is back. What a relief.
Despite the second and third games wavering in quality the Sands of Time series is still one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in gaming. I know it’s a long shot but if they can try to keep within the style of those games (especially the first one) it could end up being awesome.
Then again it could just be a shitty movie tie in.
I just hope that they ramp up the difficulty a little, I liked the last one but it was just too easy to move around and do stuff. It cheapened the Prince for me.
Well, Sands of Time is one of my favourite games of all time, and while the latter two in the trilogy don’t live up to the same standards, the trilogy as a whole is one of the better examples of good storytelling in gaming.
Given the relationship between the original trilogy and the SoT trilogy I figured they were developing the PoP universe in a manner similar to the Zelda one, with separate stories that are tied into one universe. Given how complete the SoT trilogy was, I’m definitely worried about where they plan to take it now.
