Modern Warfare 2 Limited to 9v9 And Other PC Woes

News Wednesday, November 4th 2009

I hear the Mac version has more featuresWho really needs more than 18 people in one game anyway? Or an ability to pick who is hosting? Or an in-game console? (We know only paedophiles used the console in MW1). Oh, and leaning around corners? A likely story. Only F.A.G.S. used that on PC. Still, it’s not all bad news coming out of a developer chat with Best Buy. IW confirmed the PC version is not a port of the console version, citing “mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings”.

If you are a PC gamer and considering buying Modern Warfare 2 when it comes out; please do leave a comment explaining yourself. With a six hour single player, dumbed-down and featureless multiplayer vastly inferior to every other PC game since around the late 90s and a price hike, just because they can, I really don’t understand who would buy this. At this point, one of the most advanced FPSs to be coming out this year is basically ruined on the one platform optimised for the experience.

I wonder how many of these decision are being made by Infinity Ward, and how many by Activision. IW are so successful at this point, why don’t they pull a Bungie and buy their independence?

I was seriously considering buying Modern Warfare 2 for the multiplayer since I’ve had a blast playing the first one at a few lanparties but these recent news have really been putting me off. I probably won’t buy this game anymore.

  3. okänd Says:

That’s not to say I won’t play it though, if you know what I mean.

They deserve it for all of this BS.

  4. Gemsi Says:

So wait, the pc version has mouse support over the consoles, but no mention of keyboard support, that will end well

  5. CoamIthra Says:

I’m considering buying it for the PC, hooking it up to my TV and pretending it’s an Xbox copy that’s slightly cheaper and better looking :)

  6. NoZart Says:

imma boycott the shit outta that game.

18 people online in ONE game is not enough? bullshit. the best multiplayer games i played actually had a very low player-number (2 to 8. Everything above watered down the gaming itself by putting the focus on the players. and players suck in general.

  7. vshade Says:

@CoamIthra: Excepet it is not cheaper…

  8. Playing Mantis Says:

    @CoamIthra:

The PC version is actually more expensive than the console version…the PC version is tied to Steam, so you can’t sell the game when you are done with it and they are not allowing mods that would add value/longevity.

Anybody that is only interested in single player should rent a console version, the campaign is only about 6 hours long.

I’m going to be pirating this game. Honestly I don’t really want it, but I’m going to do it anyway.

“mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings”. Wow! IW are awesome! You can tell they put such effort into making the PC version!

  11. wolf Says:

@NoZart: lol, you realize you are one of these players also right…. guess you have played with the wrong people because I LOVE games with tons of players like 16v16 in socom. What I dont like is that the ps3 version is only 9v9 because the 360 is holding the other versions back.

  12. vintagenuck Says:

Activision is seemingly trying their absolute best to ruin what was once my favorite game developer. This is the first IW made Call of Duty game I won’t be getting for PC.

  13. CoamIthra Says:

    @vshade: nuh uh

@Playing Mantis: resale’s a good point and while I don’t resell my games I do like to lend them to friends. I got Batman on the PC and it had similar issues (GFW). But it’s hard to argue with 30-50% off.

  14. Ryan Says:

Quit crying and just play the game on an Xbox/PS3. If your gaming is still limited to the PC these days, you are seriously missing out.

  15. vshade Says:

@Ryan: My gaming is not limitedo to PC these days but fps play better on the PC and usually you can have more detail. Most games that are multiplataform but don’t have an offline multiplayer I end up getting on the PC. Also they are creating lots of limitations that don´t have a reason on the PC.

  16. Ryan Says:

@vshade: What exactly makes FPSs better on the pc NOW?

  17. jneffekt Says:

the precicioon of using a mouse instead of a game pad

  18. endgame Says:

OMG mouse control!? seriously? so awesome! and to be able to write TEXT? it’s like, we’re going to use the keyboard! the f**king keyboard! i’m so thrilled.

WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU IW!? ARE YOU GUYS RETARDED!? SO THIS IS THE KIND OF NEWS THAT YOU ARE PUTTING UP ON THE NET!? JEEZ. YOU’RE SUCH A BUNCH OF IDIOTS.

  19. mman Says:

a big FU to IW and MW2..i wanted to buy it but with all this butt f***ing i dont know…BAD COMPANY 2 here we go!

  20. vshade Says:

@Ryan: The precision of the mouse and the better graphics, even in multiplat titles. But if you look to PC fps you can see even better things like the physics and gameplay in crysis.

  21. superd1984 Says:

    Panties – twisted.

  22. Sighmoan Says:

I was planning to get it for my PC out of loyalty, but then the whole business with dedicated servers completely blew up. I don’t mind using matchmaking or indeed any of the new functions for MW2, and I’ve fervently made my point to my immediate circle of nerds ever since the shit was first announced.

First I thought it was a sweet thing – all the geeks with sticks up their behinds wouldn’t be playing online, for sure. Some collateral damage, naturally, but on the whole, for the greater good. Then I realized I was essentially buying the Xbox version of the game, only with smaller multi scene and no split-screen play.

So I’m buying the 360 version, instead.

  23. AzNheadbanger Says:

@Ryan not mouse and keyboard controls but the free user created mods that is usually standard with PC gaming put the PC leaps and bounds ahead of consoles. Not to mention free online play and the amount of control we can have to create the experience we want. The only thing consoles have over the PC is accessability.
