Negative Gamer’s PS3 Slim Post
Halfleft

BIG image for BIG newsBut then, who didn’t see it coming? Once again Sony prove themselves masters of eluding the public’s prying eyes and curious minds with another well-kept secret.

Earlier today the Sony keynote took place at GamesCom. It came to light that the rampant rumours were true and the PS3 Slim is going to be available for$299 in the US this September. A third smaller and a third lighter than the chubby PS3 it also comes with an HDMI cable and a 120GB hard drive.

It will be 33% smaller and 36% lighter, will retail in America for $299.99 and the EU for the totally fair and not at all taking advantage of hapless consumers and currency conversion rates price of €299 (breathe in), and blah blah other interesting stats. If you want the full run-down I suggest you check the gaming blogosphere.

The price of the fat PS3s are also being dropped. The 80GB version will retail for $299.99 whereas the 160GB model will carry the low low price of $399.99. Other console-related announcements were made but the slim and the price cuts are the only important ones. I said so.

I’ll be honest. This still doesn’t make me want one. At all. It’s still not an expense I can justify to myself. Something worth noting about the price drop announcements is that the 80GB fat boy now costs the same as the 120GB slender beauty. That makes the 80GB PS3 completely redundant as the Slim is statistically superior, sans removable hard drive. Go ahead and buy full-price if you’re an idiot.

I still find myself struggling to be excited by this sleeker device. So long as a console isn’t the size of a small horse I just don’t care. Price, practicality, and functionality always come first.

I like the $1 = 1 euro conversion. Because that’s how it works.

The reason the 80gig is the same price is because you can still install an alternate OS and swap out the HDD for any 2.5 internal HDD.

Besides, why don’t you want a ps3? Most must have games are multi-plat and the ps3s exclusives far exceed the 360s exclusives in quality IMO. At $300 a ps3 has become a must have for anyone that calls themselves a gamer.

I don’t pay in dollars my friend. And I play games with people. I don’t interact with many PS3 gamers.

I was wrong. You can swap out the HDD in the slim. You just have to uncover the blue screw on the bottom and the just slide the HDD out. Also I forgot that you guys are over seas. Sorry about that.

And all those prices are a fuck of a lot cheaper than what I paid for my *sigh* 40 Gig.

While slightly tempting, I’m thinking of picking up a second hand tubby model. The lack of upright support and cheap finish are turn offs.

Also, I dislike parting with money, and will tolerate a few fingerprints to not have to fork out a million pounds.
