a.k.a The Negative Gamer Manifesto (beta)

Hey, my name is John Kershaw / Wardrox and I’m the guy your hate mail arrives at the feet of. I love videogames. I hate suck.

I have spent a lot of time on a lot of sites devoted to videogames and I found there to be a few things which I was never too happy about:

• Corporate bullshit
• The inability to be negative without a backlash
• Nobody “calls out” somebody when they are wrong

The big companies are spewing out so much that it’s saturating the market in an attempt to grab at the newly found casual consumer. Those few good games which are released are instantly buried under a torrent of low budget clones and casual games and rarely get the credit or popularity they deserve.

Gamers are passionate people, but the passion is wasted on flaming and fanboyism. Or worse, the passion and energy goes into defending these giant corporations. If you are going to be passionate about gaming, be passionate about making it better!

My last point is that people go unchecked. Somebody, either a games company, news site or a blog etc says something, then it turns out their wrong or they go back on their word, and nobody calls them out. People can get away with so much shit and aren’t called on it. This I’m fed up with.

I know there are people who don’t agree with what I’ve said, and if you are that person, then I invite you to leave this site and not come back. The right to free speech allows me to say whatever I want, but it does not force you to read what I say and I would be a dick to think it would.

If you do happen to agree with me, then sign up/grab the feed and I invite you to call me out if needs be. This isn’t a site where you can get all the news, Kotaku, Destructoid and Ripten have that covered.

While there are many things that are going right in the games world, the things that are going wrong are being consistently overlooked, hopefully I, or more correctly, we, can change that. This is a site about making things better through the power of bitching.
